“Plenty of fishing room in the back, and with a hard T-Top, the boat is heavy which allows it to sit on the water and take waves well.”

INTERVIEW WITH THE SKIPPER – Tom Gabel

Why did you choose to buy a Sea Pro?
After shopping around and gathering information, I learned that Sea Pro—at the time a North Carolina manufacturer and having solid market share in southern states—was looking to make a push into New England.   The boat had quality reviews at a far more attractive price than established brands in New England such as Boston Whaler, Pursuit, and others.  I’ve owned her for twenty years and have had minimal need for any repairs other than normal expected upkeep.

What boats have you previously owned?
I owned a 17’ Boston Whaler Montauk center console.

What other kinds of boats did you consider buying before this model?
I debated over a center console, but given that my kids were little, we settled on a cabin cruiser/walk around.  It’s been a good decision.

What are the features you like most about your boat?
Plenty of fishing room in the back, and with a hard T-Top, the boat is heavy which allows it to sit on the water and take waves well.

What features/improvements have you added or do you plan to add?
Maybe radar at some point, otherwise she has all I need.

How do you typically use your boat over the summer, and where do you go?
Fishing, harbor cruises and weekend jaunts up to various coves for afternoon lounging.

What is the biggest challenge you have in servicing your boat?
None, she is serviced out of J&W Marine in Beverly, and they are fantastic!

Do you have any advice for those looking to buy a Sea Pro?
Take your time and pick what you really want.

What’s the story behind the boat’s name?
After purchasing the boat, while driving home, The Rolling Stones’ song “Emotional Rescue” came on the radio.   And that did it, I said to myself, a perfect name for a multitude of reasons!
